I write these prompts with the assumption that you’re currently engaged in a creative project, whether it’s a short story, a poem cycle, or the draft of a novel or memoir. So that when I say, “Write a scene in which your character loses something,” for example, you’ll already have the character in mind, and need only decide what she should lose.
But what if you aren’t writing something right now? What if there’s only a blank Word document in front of you, and an evilly blinking cursor?
