Today I offer you a poem by Maggie Smith and a couple of prompts that fit nicely with it. I’d forgotten until just now that in a previous Substack (which I’m too lazy to look for and thus link to), I’d shared part of a different poem by Smith. That one was “Good Bones,” which apparently went viral and was “the official poem of 2016,” though I didn’t know that when I sent it out. This one is called “Threshold,” and it’s from her book Goldenrod, and I don’t think Slate’s written about it but it’s lovely nevertheless.
