Friday Write #149
when it's good to get lost
Greetings, writers—
I missed my bus stop this morning because I was listening too hard to Bach1. Once in a blue moon I can get that way with writing, too—time ceasing to exist; the world falling away—and it’s one of the best feelings there is.
When was the last time you got so absorbed in your work that you lost all sense of anything outside of it? And what might it take for that happen again?
This week, try to give yourself whatever that is. Remind yourself, if need be, that it isn’t selfish; it’s necessary.
While I don’t expect a Good Ideas prompt to spark your next beautiful creative trance, here’s one anyway, because that’s what I do.
Below is a section of a poem called Belief in Magic, by Dean Young. (You can and should read the entire poem here.)
Write, for as long as you can, about what you or your character believes in. Bonus points if it is some kind of magic.
Happy writing—
Emily
Some Spotify hero made a playlist that’s 22 hours of only the Partita for solo violin Nº 2 in D minor.

The Dean Young stanza is so perfect for me to read out loud tonight, my last night in Barcelona.
Thank you, Emily :-)
